artwork & reproduction photography for artists in devon
I photograph artwork for artists across Devon, Cornwall and the South West, from my Torquay studio and on location when needed. My work is used for exhibitions, gallery submissions, grant applications, Devon Open Studios, portfolios, print reproduction and websites. I work with paintings, drawings, textiles, sculpture, photography and mixed media, whether framed, glazed or unmounted.
Artists come to me because they want reliable photographs of their work that truly represent what they have created. A poor photograph of strong work can cost you a sale, a submission or an opportunity. A good one does the opposite.
Reflections, surface texture and colour all matter, and every piece responds differently to light. I work carefully using controlled lighting and calibrated colour so the digital file stays as close as possible to the original. Phone cameras have improved significantly, but they still struggle with colour accuracy, reflections on glazed surfaces, and consistency across a body of work. Professional equipment and studio lighting make a noticeable difference, especially for print reproduction and exhibition submissions.
You will receive high-resolution files suitable for print, exhibitions, websites and submissions, along with web-ready images for online use. Every session includes professionally retouched, colour-calibrated files as standard.
If you’re not sure what’s needed for a specific submission or print job, please get in touch, and I’ll be happy to advise.
How I photograph your artwork
Most work is photographed at my studio in Torquay, where I can properly control light and colour. You’re welcome to bring your work to me and collect it once it’s done.
If needed, I can come to you. This is usually for larger pieces, sculpture, or work that is fragile or difficult to transport. In most cases, I will bring the artwork back to the studio to photograph it under controlled conditions, then return it to you safely.
If I’m visiting your studio, I can also photograph you with your work at the same time, whether that’s a simple record shot or something more considered for your profile or website.
Every project is slightly different, so I price work based on what’s needed, including time, travel and the number of pieces. I’m always happy to talk it through and give you a clear quote in advance. You can also read my full guide to artwork photography pricing in the South West to get a sense of typical costs before we speak.
Do I need to bring my artwork to your studio?
Not necessarily. Most artists bring work to me as it keeps costs down and gives me the best conditions to work in. My studio in Torquay is set up specifically for artwork photography, with controlled lighting and calibrated colour equipment, so sessions run efficiently, and results are consistent.
That said, if your work is large, fragile, three-dimensional or simply too awkward to transport, I can come to you. I cover Devon, Cornwall and the wider South West. For on-location visits, travel expenses may apply and will always be included in your quote upfront, so there are no surprises.
If you’re a member of the Devon Artist Network or taking part in Devon Open Studios, I’d love to hear from you. Get in touch here, and I’ll come back to you within 24 hours.
